Rates Sales · Building with AI
Renata Lee
I work in hedge fund rates sales at RBC Capital Markets — covering cash, swaps, vanilla and exotic options. I also code tools the desk uses: Python dashboards, launchpad components for Bloomberg, VBA pricers, and AI agents that make us more efficient.
Outside of work, I’m usually coding something of my own, training MMA, lifting, playing padel, skiing, or reading. This is where I keep what I’ve built.
About
I’m an Associate in Rates Sales at RBC, with primary coverage of hedge fund accounts. Before London, I ran continental European rates coverage out of Paris, where I helped grow our presence in Europe with trading and DCM, whilst also covering FX and gold. Before Paris, I covered bank treasuries and central banks in London.
The thread running through all of it is that I build. Every desk I’ve sat on, I’ve ended up coding the thing that removes the manual step — Bloomberg Launchpad components, Python dashboards, VBA pricers and Excel macros. I’m now the AI Champion for my desk, building agents to analyse SDR data, confirm trades, and automate the repetitive parts of the workflow. I read markets for a living and I can read a codebase.
Projects
Some of the projects below are described at a deliberately high level to protect sensitive information.
-
Relative-value monitors
Built for the desk, adopted by colleagues
- The problem
- Spotting relative value across markets and currencies meant assembling the same view by hand, repeatedly, under time pressure — and by the time it was assembled the opportunity had often moved.
- What I did
- I wrote a set of Python monitors surfaced as Bloomberg Launchpad components: a cross-market forwards monitor, a cross-currency forwards monitor, an ASW / Z-spread cross-currency monitor, and a EUR forwards monitor for swaps and tenor basis with a historical regression feature — each turning a manual comparison into a live screen. I also built Python dashboards and Excel VBA tools for cross-currency ASW relative value across SSAs and government bonds.
- Outcome
- Sales and trading can visualise a trade faster, spot dislocations as they appear, and get a clearer read on what clients are doing.
-
Trade workflow agents
AI Champion for the desk
- The problem
- A meaningful slice of the day went on work that was necessary but not judgement-heavy: parsing trade details, confirming trades, running the same data pull and reconciliation every morning.
- What I did
- As AI Champion I designed and built agents for the repeatable parts of the workflow — SDR data analysis, trade parsing, and trade confirmation. The interesting part wasn’t the model; it was scoping which steps could safely be handed over — and nothing goes out without a person reviewing it.
- Outcome
- Adopted across the desk, it takes minutes off every trade, cuts the errors that come with manual parsing, and gets confirmations back to clients faster — and the time it frees goes back into client work.
-
Morning market summary bot
Built and run solo
- The problem
- Once I’m at the desk I’m swamped with client-facing work — there is no quiet window to read through the overnight news. I needed it already condensed before I get in.
- What I did
- I built an agent that runs at 6am every morning, uses Claude to research the web for the overnight headlines and condense them into a summary, then delivers it to me as a Telegram message. The whole thing runs unattended on a Raspberry Pi.
- Outcome
- Every morning, I know what happened overnight before I’m even out of bed.
-
Weybridge Dental Practice
Sole designer, copywriter and builder
- The problem
- A general and cosmetic dental practice running a website that was years out of date, with a “book online” link that didn’t work — so patients who wanted to book had no working way to do it.
- What I did
- I built the site end to end: information architecture, visual design, all treatment and practice copy, and the build itself — hand-coded in React rather than assembled in a site builder.
- Outcome
- Live, with online booking working again — weekly revenue up 338% in the three months following launch, with average order value up 19%.
